Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know whether or not my application has been received?
If you would like confirmation that your application has been received kindly send it to the Trust with a return receipt, or provide an email address where indicated at the bottom of your application.

What if portions of my application are coming directly from my school or other source?
You must apprise us that your application is incomplete, and the reasons for this. If we do not have an explanation for your application being incomplete, it will be declined.

When will I know whether or not I received a scholarship?
Letters of award are sent out on May 15th.  Letters indicating a declined application are also sent out on or before May 15.

What costs will SCT not cover?
SCT will not fund costs associated with room and board, meal plans, transportation, insurance, security deposits, or any other costs we deem to be optional.

How does SCT pay out this scholarship?
Scholarship awards are paid directly to your college of choice. You do not receive these funds. You must provide SCT with a copy of your fall semester invoice as soon as you receive it, and we will forward a check directly to your school. We will not send funds to a college without a copy of your invoice. We must have a copy of your fall semester invoice no later than August 31st or you risk forfeiting your scholarship.

Is the scholarship broken down by semesters?
No. SCT will pay the full amount of your award directly to your college in the fall semester. It is up to the college as to how they will apply it to tuition and required costs.

Can I defer my scholarship award?
No. You must either accept it for the school year for which you have applied, or decline it. SCT by design must disburse all available funds by December 31 of each year.

Once I receive a scholarship will the award amount be the same for subsequent years of college?
No. You must re-apply every year. We base our awards not only on your specific need, but also on the needs of others who apply in a given year.

If I've changed my major, will I lose my scholarship?
You will not lose your scholarship if you've changed your major mid-year. However, when you re-apply, if your major no longer meets SCT criteria, your application will be declined.

If, after receiving a scholarship, my permanent residence changes, am I still eligible to re-apply?
Yes.

If, after my college receives payment from SCT, I withdraw from school, what do I do about the scholarship?
You must notify SCT immediately if you withdraw from school. You also must notify your bursar's office to make arrangements for SCT to be refunded your award.

Do I need to apply each year?
Yes. Once you have been awarded a scholarship from SCT, you may re-apply using the returning applicant form.

If I m denied a scholarship for any reason in a given year, may I apply again in subsequent years?
You are welcome to apply again. You must use the first time application form as you will be treated as a new applicant.

If I choose to attend college on a part time basis, will you fund this?
We will only consider applications for full time undergraduate studies.

If I am pursuing a Master's Degree program, am I eligible to apply or re-apply?
No. The Trust only funds undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor's degree.
